What is fort clonque?

Fort Clonque is a 19th-century fort on the island of Alderney in the Channel Islands. It was built between 1853-1856 as part of a series of forts known as the Palmerston Forts. The fort was designed to defend against a French invasion during the Victorian era but was never involved in any battles.

In 1962, the fort was converted into a holiday home by its then-owner, Englishman T.R. Austin. The fort has since been sold several times and is currently operated as a luxury holiday accommodation by the Landmark Trust, a British charity that restores and rents out historic buildings.

The fort has ten bedrooms, a large living area, a dining room, and a kitchen. It is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is only accessible via a causeway at low tide. The fort also has a small beach, a tidal pool, and a courtyard garden.

Fort Clonque is popular among tourists and has been featured in several films and TV shows, including the British detective series "Midsomer Murders."
